Program “Explosion Pressure” (Test Round 2023)

For the program "Explosion Pressure ("EP") - Test Round 2023" the general routine procedure is described by the standard "Explosive atmospheres - Part 1: Equipment protection by flameproof enclosures "d"" - IEC 60079-1, Edition 7.0.

The determination of the explosion pressure as a reference pressure for the overpressure test in order to prove that an enclosure can withstand pressure is one of the essential tests of this type of protection (clause 15.2). Here, it is the task of the test laboratory to find the combination of the location of the ignition source and the pressure measuring devices that produces the highest pressure. Therefore, in the program "Explosion Pressure - Test Round 2023", the ability to find this combination is analysed and the explosion pressure (reference pressure) is selected as the quantity to be compared.

The Test Sample "EP" consists of a cast aluminium housing (aluminium, copper-free, AL Si7Mg03 according to EN 13195) together with a screw cap with the external dimensions (L x W x H) 155 mm x 155 mm x 132 mm. In addition, there is a fixed solid obstruction (baffle plate) in the enclosure to simulate internal equipment. The simple and robust design and homogeneity tests guarantee homogeneity and stability throughout the whole test round. In addition, the selected design of the test sample offers convenient manufacturing, preparation and transport possibilities. To ensure comparability and homogeneity, all Test Samples "EP" are selected, prepared, and provided by the coordinator. Detailed information and specifications regarding the test sample are described in the "Procedure Instruction of Program "Explosion Pressure - Test Round 2023"" which will be published at a later date.

The workload to perform this program is approximately 3 working days.

Detailed information and specifications regarding the test method are described in the "Procedure Instruction of Program "Explosion Pressure - Test Round 2023"", which will be published at a later date.
